FAR FROM FAMILIAR, 2020
video and sound installation
Far from Familiar redefines the concept of ‘home’ through an imaginative space where 2 dimensions meet — one recognised, the other foreign. “Imaginaries“ of the fatherland birthed only from figments of cultural ancestry. Prayer flags, Buddhist pilgrimage sites and mountain ranges. These are stitched within my immediate surroundings to create a transient space that coalesces both identities.
Disparities in sound and visuals create a disjuncture that evokes a sense of dissociation, conveying boundaries both physical and perceived when thinking about the Tibetan diaspora.
